I took on the role of a Mental Health Support worker by accident. I was visiting a hospital in my capacity as a Councillor and got talking to a nurse who persuaded me to apply for a job.

I ended up working in the hospital for seven years. I like to think I did a bit of good whilst there. It isn’t hugely rewarding in terms of pay but (as with many caring occupations) the reward is to be had in helping other people and learning so much along the way.

I don’t think everyone is suited to the role. At times, it can very challenging. I might one day write a book about my experiences and what I learnt.
