It has always been somewhat easier to predict that we would have another hose pipe ban than which team wins the football World Cup.

Of course, we should do the sensible thing and curtail water usage right away as best we can in an effort to avoid problems later on.

Southern Water are hardly my “favourite” company. I have nothing against all the hard working people who do all the work but there are people at the top of the organisation, those that direct it, who have been more concerned with short term profits to be had than investing in the necessary infrastructure that would have ensured we don’t experience the regular problems such as shortages and thousands of pollution incidents.

It will be interesting to see whether the commercially run industry survives a Burnham led government. I am well aware that many think that nationalisation isn’t affordable and won’t necessarily improve performance. On this, I line up with those that think it just makes sense for such an important industry to be run by and for the interests of the UK… it shouldn’t be foreign owned or run by those seeking to make profits.
