COLLECTIVE DECISION MAKING…

Local Council” cartoon: politicians elected to sort out the Middle East.
This cartoon, published in Private Eye, made me chuckle.
Almost everyone I speak to thinks that Starmer is doing a terrible job as Prime Minister. Of course, we cannot know to what extent his decisions are made by him or whether they are “collective” decisions made in the Cabinet.
It would take a really strong character to impose your will if it differs from the majority. Leaves me wondering if that has happened since the days of a Thatcher led government.
When you think about all the people that have held the post in recent years, they are all very different personalities and it is hard to argue that any have been a great success.
Perhaps the truth is that the job of Prime Minister is simply too difficult ?
My natural inclination is to consider what would work better if things consistently fail. However, it would be a very brave sitting Prime Minister who undertook a review, considering a better governance model, knowing that it looks like an admission of failure.
