A reminder this week of the true cost of wild fires. Three Fire Fighters in Greece lost their lives whilst working to suppress fire that was out of control in what would otherwise be a beautiful place for people to go on holiday. The families affected must be devastated.

We have recently seen wild fires breaking out in the New Forest, The Isle of Wight and Titchfield, to name but a few local examples.

As a society, we have to respond very quickly to what’s happening. The risk of climate change now impacting on us all so rapidly means that we face danger to human life, many forms of wildlife, residential and commercial property.

Predicted more extreme weather may mean serious flooding events at other times of the year.

It seems very strange to me that, here in the UK and globally, we seem to be reigning back on reducing carbon emissions… the very thing that almost all climate scientists keep telling us is the root cause of what we are witnessing.

It is almost as if those foreign powers who mean only harm to the UK are influencing politicians to act in the wrong direction, questioning the science and suggesting that we cannot afford to do what is required.

The truth of the matter is that we cannot afford to do anything other than make the fastest switch we can to renewable forms of energy regeneration and storage. I am doing everything I can locally but we also need to lean onto our MP’s and Government to make sure the necessary actions are taken.
