Vibrant red poppies bloom along a grassy roadside next to a curving asphalt road with a car in the distance.
I don’t know if everybody feels quite the same way as I do but I love the fact that poppies unexpectedly appear after a ground disturbance.
This particular display can be seen just off the Rushington roundabout, Totton.
Apparently, the seeds of poppies can lie dormant in the ground for decades until there is a disturbance (in this case, a widening and re-sighting of the footpath).
Of course, poppies are also associated with the First World War and Remembrance, following ground disturbance on the battleground.
