UPDATE ON OVERGROWN FOOTWAY…
Tuesday, August 18th, 2026 at 8:02am

Overgrown footway in need of maintenance, with dry weeds and a wooden fence.
Sometimes it is something of a trial getting things done, especially when every organisation you contact to ask that vegetation is cut back responds with a “Not Ours Guv”.
The relatively new access to the Totton railway station platform from the High Street has been seriously neglected and apart from it being unsightly and a risk to pedestrians, we also have the additional risk of it being tinder dry and a potential fire risk.
Everyone I contacted… Network Rail, South Western Trains, Hampshire County Council, New Forest District Council, Totton & Eling Town Council told me that it wasn’t their responsibility.
I am grateful to a facebook follower who suggested that the land might still be part of the Associated British Ports Estate. I contacted them and discovered that indeed it is. However, they told me that Hampshire County Council had agreed to maintain it in an agreement made in 2024. They have therefore contacted them to make this clear and ask that they work is carried out.
Some jobs are easy, others are like wading through treacle ! Fingers crossed, it will be sorted soon.
